Gas Fired Electricity Generator Station plus Gas Terminal, Storage Facilities & Pipelines to be built near BaliAccording to the the 2007 Annual Report for DEI, The Greek Electrical Company a new Gas Fired Electricity Generator Station plus Gas Terminal, Storage Facilities & Pipelines is to be built near Bali . Tucked away on page 28 of the report is a paragraph which may have a serious consequences for the Korakia Akrotiri just a few kilometres east of Panormo. The tourist resort of Bali is situated on the Korakia Akrotiri. Here is part of the report:- "PPC, aiming to reduce the yearly financial deficit from the electric energy supply to the island of Crete, has agreed with DESFA S.A. to introduce natural gas in the energy balance of the island as early as 2012. The natural gas introduction will be effected by DESFA developing an LNG terminal in Korakia (borderline of Rethimnon and Iraklion Perfectures in the northern coast of the island) and by building a natural gas transmission network reaching the power plants of Chania and Atherinolakkos. (Note by CreteInternet - Atherinolakkos power station opened in 2004 and is situated in South East Crete) Nearby (*sic) the LNG terminal, PPC will develop two gas fired CCPPs rated 250 MW each, and it will transfer there three GTs of 86 MW overall capacity from Linoperamata Power Station (*Note by CreteInternet - Linoperamata is on the western edge of Heraklion), after converting them to natural gas firing. The remaining generating units of the Linoperamata Power Station (4 diesel engines, 2 GTs and 6 HFO fired steam generating units) will be shut down. The project foresees also that the existing CCPP unit and 3 GTs in the Chania Power Station to be converted to natural gas firing, while two of the GTs, rated 59 MW each, to be repowered to a new CCPP with the addition of 2 HRSGs and a steam turbine generator, rated 62 MW. Finally the generating units, of the Atherinolakkos Power Station (300 MW in total) shall be also converted to natural gas firing once the gas network reaches the corresponding site (2016)."
